Managing Android Market Applications

Back to Tips Back to Top

The Hero's Android operating system manages applications with an advanced architecture technique to ensure better battery life and performance.

The Hero's Android application management will automatically close and store processes you're not currently using. By storing applications when they are not in use, the Hero's application management allows for not only a seamless user experience, but also improved battery performance.

Downloading a Task Manager

In order to improve battery life, there may be times when you want to close applications you're not currently using but that are accessing the data network in the background. There are several task managers on the Android Market that facilitate this. One that does a great job is called Advanced Task Killer Free.

Note: Be careful when using any third-party task managing application. You must make sure that you do not close any system processes or applications used by the Hero's operating system. Failure to do so could cause the Hero to crash (a forced close) or result in applications that won't work correctly until the Hero is reset.

Read below for instructions on how to safely exclude certain applications from closing. You can install the Advanced Task Killer Free from the Android Market by searching the following.

  1. Launch the Market Application
  2. Search for "task manager"
  3. Scroll down until you see the Advanced Task Killer Free Application
  4. Select Install

Once installed, you can access the Advanced Task Manager Application from the Notification Toolbar at the top of the screen. Pull down and select to open.

Once the application is opened, you can press and hold down the applications to add to the Ignore list. If you select to Kill all applications, make sure to exclude any system applications (e.g., HTC Sense, Albums if using the Android picture widget) by adding to the ignore list. To add an application to the Ignore list, press and hold down on the desired application as shown below. You can also choose by unchecking the application you don't want to close, and then select Kill selected apps.
