The Network

We've invested more than $530 million in network infrastructure since 2006 to activate over 500 new cell sites, including nearly 450 completely new sites with 3G high-speed data capacity.

Our dependable wireless network survived Hurricane Katrina, the nation's worst natural disaster, and, for many, was the first and only means of communication available during and after the storm. Our commitment to an advanced network led to the construction of a permanent $2.5 million microwave ring in South Mississippi ensuring that wireless communication will still be available even in the event landline systems are not operable – further strengthening our unmatched network reliability.

The Recognition

Our wireless innovations, network enhancement and best-in-class customer service all played a major role in out-scoring three national wireless providers to win the State of Mississippi cellular contract.

In 2006 and 2007, Cellular South was recognized by the Mississippi State Legislature for its unmatched personal service, unparalleled wireless coverage, innovative products and its industry leadership.

The Future

In 2008, we participated in the FCC's 700 MHz auction and successfully purchased licenses for $192 million to cover virtually all of Mississippi and Tennessee and most of Alabama. The company plans to utilize this spectrum to deploy Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in the future.

In December 2009, we received government approval to purchase Alabama-based Corr Wireless Communications.

On February 1, 2010, we completed our acquisition of Corr Wireless Communications. With this strategic purchase, we will now be able to offer the industry's best devices, plans and network to customers in northeastern Alabama and parts of Georgia.

The Commitment

We're dedicated to the communities we serve and our goal is to improve the quality of life in these communities.

  • Since 1997, we've donated $2.5 million to enhance academic and athletic opportunities for high school and college students in our area through scholarship and endowment funding.
  • In addition, we're actively involved in supporting community service and non-profit charitable organizations through the Cellular South Foundation targeting areas such as academic, athletic, health, wellness, safety, civic and scholarship programs that improve lives and help communities thrive.
  • Our primary community focus is on improving opportunities for education in our service area. We've designed the Cellular South Gameplan program to inspire, prepare and inform teenage athletes and high school students about college opportunities and the possibilities of reaching their dreams through academic excellence.
