About our network
Cellular South recently completed a two-year network investment project totaling $237 million. This project included investments in our network infrastructure and capital expenditure improvements. It began as a company-wide network investment in 2006 to grow our premier voice and data network in both metropolitan and rural areas and transformed into a major capital investment initiative that included a new corporate headquarters building in Ridgeland, Mississippi, and a Technical Operations Center in downtown Jackson, Mississippi.
The Technical Operations Center boasts some of the most advanced wireless communications equipment available in a highly-secure environment. The downtown Jackson, Mississippi, location was strategically placed and provides Cellular South with unmatched power for its wireless network as well as being equipped with multiple feeds of fiber optic connectivity.
Along with other capital improvements, Cellular South added more than 300 new cell sites and the company's CDMA third generation digital wireless network provides call quality and coverage inside office buildings and homes, network clarity, and capacity to accommodate voice and data traffic. This commitment to the network allows customers to use their wireless devices as they see fit. In fact, Cellular South's customers talk almost twice as much as the industry average and text about six times as much.
Cellular South's network investment also included the construction of a permanent $2.5 million microwave ring in South Mississippi for redundancy in the event that landline systems are not operable – further strengthening its network for unmatched reliability. This investment also included $2 million to upgrade back-up generators and construct a new switch in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for extra capacity in order to provide the best service possible in emergency situations.
