Make the Call To Fight Prematurity

Jackson MS, February 17, 2004 – Cellular South is heading up a used cell phone drive for the March of Dimes to help save babies. Wondering what you are going to do with all those old cell phones you have managed to acquire? Here’s your chance to get rid of them and do your part to help save babies.

With the cell phone donation program, you can make the call to help find out why babies are born early, and to help the fight prematurity. How do you get started?

  • Gather up the old cell phones from your house and car.
  • Ask you friends and family members for their old phones.
  • Get your co-workers involved – challenge departments or business leaders to participate.
  • Drop the phones off at any Coast Cellular South location by March 31:
301 Hwy 90, Bay St. Louis
    211-A Eisenhower Drive, Biloxi
    9471 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport
    2424 Bienville Blvd., Ocean Springs
    2512 Denny Ave., Pascagoula
    Edgewater Mall Kiosk, Biloxi
    Radio Shack Kiosk, Wiggins

"Cellular South is delighted to partner with the March of Dimes to collect used cell phones," said Jan Davis, Cellular South spokesperson. "Rather than gathering dust, these phones will be recycled and money raised will be used to support local March of Dimes programs. Our hope is that the entire Gulf Coast community will get behind this program to make it a success."

The March of Dimes mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality through research, education, community programs and advocacy. In partnership with ReCellular, Inc., phones collected will generate funds needed to support this mission.

Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death. It affects more than 460,000 babies in the U.S. each year – that’s 1,280 babies every day. It can result in lifelong consequences like blindness or mental retardation. The March of Dimes is working to find answers to what causes premature birth and how it can be prevented.
