Cellular South invites golfers to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association
MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 8, 2004 – The third annual Cellular South Golf Classic benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will take place Thursday, August 5 at WedgeWood Golfer's Club in Olive Branch, Miss. More than 100 golfers are expected to play in this year's event.
"The MDA seeks no government grants or United Way funding and relies almost entirely on private contributors to assist people with neuromuscular diseases, so we are thrilled to be supporting the organization," said Bruce Orpet, Cellular South area marketing specialist and organizer of the event.
Cellular South hopes to raise more than $10,000 for MDA with this year's Cellular South Golf Classic.
"We're so pleased that Cellular South has taken an interest in helping our organization," said Christy Garrett, program coordinator for MDA. "Every dollar counts as we work to find treatments and a cure for muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases."
Leading the worldwide fight against neuromuscular diseases since 1950, the MDA has provided the Memphis/Mid-South area with the most comprehensive services program of any voluntary heath agency in the country. It has an outstanding record of devoting contributions directly to people with neuromuscular diseases - about 76 percent go directly towards program services.
The tournament is limited to the first 36 teams, or 144 golfers. Registration for a team of four is $400. Companies can sponsor tees for $100.
Teams interested in signing up may call Bruce Orpet at (901) 870-8888 or Christy Garrett at (901) 367-0902 to register before the July 15 deadline.
