First annual tourney will benefit American Heart Association

LAUREL, Miss. - (June 8, 2005) – The first annual Cellular South HeartBeat Golf Classic benefiting the American Heart Association, will be held at Laurel Country Club Friday, June 10.

Tee time is 1 p.m. and tournament prizes include a cruise for two, golf lessons, and dinner and a one-night stay at the Biloxi Grand Casino. Martin Motor Company will award a new Pontiac G6 worth more than $25, 0000 for a hole-in-one.

"The Cellular South HeartBeat Golf Classic is an exciting first for South Mississippi," said Leigh Ann Leonard, American Heart Association regional director. "We're expecting golfers from Laurel, Hattiesburg and the surrounding area for a great afternoon of golf, food and prizes.

"Funding for the American Heart Association's outreach efforts to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease comes almost entirely from corporate sponsors such as Cellular South, and individuals who are concerned about heart health."

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., accounting for more than 40 percent of all deaths each year. In 1994, almost one million Americans died from heart-related diseases.

"Cellular South is dedicated to supporting healthy lifestyles for all Mississippians," said Richard Reynolds, the company's area manager. "As a Mississippi company, we invest a wide range of resources in health-related programs, like those of the American Heart Association, that we believe will have a positive impact on our state."

Registration begins at 12 noon and registration cost is $350 per four man teams and will include a scramble format and shotgun start. Registration may be paid at the Laurel Cellular South office or may be paid at the tournament. For more information, you may contact Tina Covey at 601-425-4444.
