Hugh Green to Present Cellular South Conerly Trophy

Stay up to date with the latest Cellular South press releases and news articles

JACKSON, Miss. - (November 4, 2007) – Mississippi native and former University of Pittsburgh three-time All-American Hugh Green--one of the most decorated defensive players in college football history—will present the 2007 Cellular South Conerly Trophy to Mississippi's top college football player on November 27, 2007. The presentation will take place at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum in Jackson, MS.

"We've had well known presenters in the past but we've never had a speaker with Hugh Green's college playing credentials," said Museum Executive Director Michael Rubenstein.

The Natchez, MS native, rated the sixth best college football player of all-time by "America's Best" website, won the Walter Camp Award, the Maxwell Award, and the Lombardi Award all in 1980 but finished second in the Heisman Trophy to eventual recipient George Rogers. No pure defensive player has ever come closer to claiming college football's most prestigious individual award.

Green was the seventh player selected in the 1981 draft. He was a two-time All-Pro selection during his eleven year NFL career in Tampa and Miami.

Currently, Green is the founder and president of Incognito LLC, an organization that provides legendary athletes to benefit non-profit organizations most notably the Ronald McDonald Houses.

For the first time, the Museum is offering a $25 student ticket for individuals under 17. Adult tickets are $75. For ticket information, contact the Museum at 1-800-280-FAME (3263) or purchase them online at www.msfame.com. All proceeds benefit the private non-profit Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum.
