Memphis, TN - (January 25, 2008) – France's Tatiana Golovin is the latest top-name player to commit to play in the 2008 Cellular South Cup women's professional tennis tournament, which begins Feb. 24 at The Racquet Club of Memphis, tournament organizers announced today.
Golovin, who reached the finals of four Sony Ericsson WTA Tour events last year, highlights the list of those previously unannounced commitments for next month's Cellular South Cup tournament, which is held in conjunction with the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships, the men's pro tennis event.
Golovin, a 20-year-old ranked No. 13 in the world, joins a field that includes No. 8 Venus Williams, No. 17 Shahar Peer and No. 51 Lindsay Davenport, the former world No. 1 making a comeback after a back injury and time off to have her first child. Golovin won two tour events last year and was beaten in the finals of two others, both times by world No. 1 Justine Henin.
"We're very pleased that our tournament is attracting some of the top names in women's tennis today as evidenced by the latest addition of Tatiana Golovin," said Tournament Owner Mac Winker.
The Cellular South Cup, which runs Feb. 24 through March 1, also will feature Americans Meghann Shaughnessy and Ashley Harleroad and Australian Casey Dellacqua, who reached the fourth round of the Australian Open earlier this month after an upset of Amelie Mauresmo.
