Nicole Vaidisova Accepts Wildcard To 2010 Cellular South Cup

Joins Headliners Maria Sharapova (RUS) and Melanie Oudin (USA) in International Field of Singles Players Representing 13 Countries

Memphis, TN (Jan. 21, 2010) – The Cellular South Cup announced today that Nicole Vaidisova (CZE) has accepted a Wildcard for entry into the 2010 singles field of players. Previously ranked as high as number seven in the world and a semifinalist at the 2005 Cellular South Cup, Vaidisova sat out much of the 2009 season with a wrist injury, and she will be looking to kick off her return to the top of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings with a strong showing in Memphis.

The Cellular South Cup will be played Feb. 14-20, 2010 at The Racquet Club of Memphis. Vaidisova joins an international field that includes players representing 13 countries: USA, Germany, Russia, the Netherlands, Portugal, Estonia, Romania, Czech Republic, France, Canada, Colombia, Slovakia, Croatia and Great Britain. The singles field is headlined by three-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova (RUS) and 2009 U.S. Open Quarterfinalist Melanie Oudin (USA). Also of note, four players that played in the U.S.T.A Girls 18's National Clay Court Championships at The Racquet Club of Memphis are in the singles player field, including Oudin, Laura Granville (USA), Vania King (USA) and Lilia Osterloh (USA). The youngest player is Michelle C. Larcher De Brito (POR) at 18 years while the oldest player is Osterloh (USA) at 31 years, 10 months at tournament time.

"Nicole Vaidisova is a wonderful addition to the Cellular South Cup field, and we are so glad that she has accepted the Wildcard to play here this year," said Tournament Director Peter Lebedevs. "She had a great run here in 2005, and we look forward to watching her battle it out with our incredibly competitive international field in this year's tournament."

The 2010 Cellular South Cup schedule of play for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night has been announced. Maria Sharapova will play her first-round singles match at 7 p.m. on Monday, February 15 followed by another main draw match to be announced. On Tuesday, February 16, Lleyton Hewitt will play his first-round singles match at 7 p.m. followed by Melanie Oudin in her first-round singles match. On Wednesday, February 17, Andy Roddick will play his first-round singles match at 7 p.m. followed by another main draw match to be announced. Opponents for each of the featured tournament matches will be determined at the Cellular South Cup draw event to be held Friday, February 12 at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
