WirelessWallet Trial A Success!

Press Release - September 6, 2007

Press Release - June 5, 2007

Wireless Wallet Prototype Phone from Kyocera

The Cellular South WirelessWallet Consumer Trial concluded on August 31 with great response from the trial participants. The trial began in June as the first-ever multi-city consumer trial launch of this innovative m-commerce service. More than 75 Cellular South customers and approximately 50 retail merchant locations in Memphis, Tennessee, and Jackson, Mississippi, participated in the trial.

With WirelessWallet, Cellular South customers can leave their wallet at home and use their wireless device to pay for purchases. The wireless device acts as a digital credit card that allows Cellular South customers to make payments and purchases by simply tapping it against a Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled wireless reader. How WirelessWallet Works.

Each participant in the trial was equipped with a prototype Kyocera phone that was WirelessWallet-enabled, giving them a new and high-tech kind of purchasing power.

The trial was a great success!

  • 87% of testers are interested in using WirelessWallet when it becomes commercially available.
  • More than 75% of participants were satisfied with their WirelessWallet transactions.
  • The vast majority of testers say it was very easy and convenient to use and a very innovative service.

This positive response proves consumers are ready for WirelessWallet and feel confident trusting Cellular South to deliver mobile commerce solutions. Moving consumers to the next frontier of wireless adoption–money on your phone–is a natural progression for Cellular South as it continues its history of helping consumers fully adopt wireless technology. The company’s previous product innovations have yielded a customer base that talks twice as much and texts six times the national average.

Continued consumer research will be conducted with the trial participants and with Cellular South’s broader scale customer panel that is routinely used to ensure that the company’s products are reliable, relevant and easy to use.
